ABOUT THE SEMINOLE FIRE RESCUE

The Seminole Tribe Fire Rescue (STFR) Department is the primary Fire Rescue Organization for Seminole Tribe of Florida Reservations. STFR is comprised of dedicated men and women, which includes sworn, civilian, and part-time staff.

All Firefighter/Paramedics are Florida State Certified and meet the requirements stipulated by the Florida Department of Health and Bureau of Firefighter Standards and Training. STFR provides direct and in-direct Fire Rescue Response Service to a combined area is approximately 90,000 acres.

STFR is a full service professional fire rescue organization that operates twenty four hours a day and seven days a week. Duties of a Firefighter/Paramedic include:

  • Responds to fire, medical, and other emergencies
  • Enters burning areas, including structures, grass and brush fires, with hose lines, foam and other fire retardants
  • Renders advanced life support medical skills
  • Enters hazardous conditions to protect life and property form such hazards as toxic gases and liquids, or downed electrical power lines
  • Responds to public service incidents involving public safety and protection of property
  • Operates a variety of auxiliary fire fighting equipment
  • Assists in salvage and clean-up operations after fires
  • Promotes community readiness by assisting in educating the public in emergency preparedness measures
  • Participates in code enforcement/fire prevention measures
  • Performs residential and commercial building inspections
  • Maintains current knowledge of fire fighting, rescue, and emergency medical service procedures
  • Participates in pre-fire planning
  • Maintains/service fire vehicles and equipment, and cleans/maintains fire stations

STFR provides duty gear and Personal Protective Equipment. All new recruits complete a recruit academy which includes both intense physical training and a challenging academic program.

Annual Leave Accrual:
0-5 years (4 hours accrued bi-weekly); 5 or more years (5 hours accrued bi-weekly).

Sick Leave Accrual:

2 hours sick accrual per week (4 hours accrual bi-weekly).

Holidays:

12 Paid holidays per calendar year.

Life Insurance:

$200,000 policy included for a Firefighter.

Medical (United Healthcare):

The Low Premium Plan is offered along with an HSA (Heath Savings Account). The Low Premium Plan offers options for Medical, Prescription Drug, Dental, and Vision Coverage for all enrolled full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Annual Deductible – Single: $1,500 in Network and $3,000 Out-of-Network. Annual Deductible – Family: $3,000 In-Network and $6,000 Out-of-Network.

401K:

A Full-time employee may become a participant after completing 60 days of service. A Part-time/temporary/seasonal employee that works less than 1,000 hours in a year may become a participant after completing one year of service. Enrollment is automatic at 6% employee contribution. The Tribe matches 100% of the first 4% (Maximum) of an employee’s contribution.

Step Program:

We have an 8 year step pay program, with longevity pay at year 12 and year 14. There is a 5% increase with each of the 8 steps.
